Snacks are short-form, midweek drops featuring brands I’ve just discovered, shops I stumbled onto, artists I think you’ll love… little odes to the things I find that I’m sending straight over to you.
This week’s Brand Snack is The Hold, a handbag brand based in Australia. I wouldn’t even call them handbags, really—they’re more like wearable works of art that will also hold your stuff.
I think one of the easiest ways to zhuzh up an outfit is to throw a fun little textured bag into the mix—something beaded or woven, maybe. The Hold makes bags that look like they came from a wildly expensive vintage shop, the kind that keeps their best pieces behind glass. They’re the kind of thing you’d wear to a black-tie wedding but also with your most lived-in pair of jeans. Each bag is handmade using a variety of craft techniques—beading, metalwork, crochet—in small runs. Aaaand they’re all under $250!
The Hold’s metal bags are like something you might find in the antiquities wing at The Met. The Modern World is my favorite—a boxy brass bag with a wooden handle, two pearls, and an ornate clasp.
For more from The Hold, follow them on Instagram and visit their website to shop these cuties. (Hot tip: WELCOME20 gets you $20 off.)
