Loved this piece. There's truly no better feeling than the high off of finding something unique after a long search. So much more rewarding!
My boyfriend and I collect postcards from restaurants where we'll write memories + love notes from our time there. We have too many to count at this point - it's become a cool little time capsule for us and would love to do something with all of them someday!
I live in Paris and spend an inordinate amount of time walking around and taking photos of things, people, graffiti, museums, monuments, trash, the sky, the Seine that we call la fleuve (the river)and doggos which can be sorted into collections...and those collections are predominantly; phallic graffiti, snake jewelry and sculpture, astronauts (the outfit but mostly the mirror helmet visor! my fave), death metal makeup around the eyes (think Gene Simmons Kiss), and cowboy boots.
My actual physical collections include; art (MANY paintings some sculptures and photos), resin jewelry/objects by Sobral Design Brasil (mostly Eiffel Towers and skulls), scarves, clothes (I'm a stylist/buyer and shameless clotheshorse), Romanian ceramics and wax neon saints from La Ciergerie des Prémontrés
Voilà..
and if you've not been to the Marché aux Puces at St. Ouen yet, what are you even doing?
Just to say, I loved reading this. I’m a huge fan of Pierce & Ward. That kind of effortless curation where everything just works—accidentally on purpose—is my weakness. I low-key envy the ease of it all (even though I know it’s anything but easy, lol).
i want the bed too! it was fun to see that is what you purchased, i hope it is lovely! and i suppose i collect driftwood, unintentionally but if i look around my home you will spot it in lots of places.
Boring answer but I have a small collection of vintage and heirloom classic books like Bambi and Treasure Island. I love the way they look on my shelves and they actually mean something to me as I read and watched those stories growing up ❤️
I really enjoyed reading this, Ali. I wrote a book about collecting (vintage) and am fascinated by other people’s collections and how they display them. I’d love to send you a copy.
Gorgeous as always. ICYMI excerpt from the Didion/Dunne archives in a recent New Yorker: letters from Didion to Dunne detailing her psychotherapy. Recommend!
Little pieces of art, ideally bought directly from the artist. Maybe a ceramic creature, or a small oil painting, or paper mache mask.... Been at it since I was in high school and had income from my first job. No central theme to the style or type, just whatever brings me happiness in the moment.
We’re three siblings and each of us has a collection. Mine is leather jackets (only six for now, but growing every year). One of my siblings collects hotel room keys (the ones that are cards) and the youngest has a sizeable plushie collection.
Loved this piece!! It made me very sentimental about the ways collections of objects serve as collections of memories.
🫶🏻 this one. My collections so far include original art, books, seashells from my travels to different beaches, matchbooks from travels, glasswares, ribbons, dried flower petals in bowls, candles, scarves + records.
I collect fruit labels 😌

Vintage bottles, tea cups, French oil paintings, and chihuahuas. 💗

I’d love that! Shoot me a DM!
Thank you for including me and my obsession for little paper cards!
