Welcome to Notes Of, a new(ish) column on À La Carte. Each month I make a mood board and post it to Instagram as a little creative exercise in thematic thinking. Notes Of elaborates on each month’s theme and includes links to relevant articles, videos, products, and more.
All month I’ve been excitedly getting in the autumnal mood (as evidenced by my academia-themed Side Order and newsletters recommending booky things—I can’t help it.) It only felt right to build a mood board around the through-line between these things: the library!!
In the first Notes Of I wrote a bit about how I use mood boards and what I consider when I’m pulling images for them, and in last month's I outlined the three types of “theme boards” I make for these monthly exercises. This time I’m writing about something that I know we all experience: what to do when the idea you have just isn’t working (or, alternatively, when everything is just going wrong.)
