“It should have been red,” responded Kate (
) when I asked what people thought of Pantone’s color of the year, peach fuzz. “Bye Bye Beige: Red Is Making A Fiery Comeback This Autumn” declared a Vogue headline way back in July. of Earl Earl is predicting that sky blue will be the color of next season, noting that it looks particularly good with—you guessed it—red. Just this week, guessed that it will be bright green for the same reason. Red is very clearly the color du jour. It’s not just happening in fashion. Bode’s new women's store, for instance, has a centerpiece of two bright red patterned chairs atop a red vintage rug. The “Unexpected Red Theory” is floating around on TikTok, speculating that adding a pop of red to any room is the secret sauce to an immediate improvement. And just this week Architectural Digest shared an image of Johnny Galecki’s incredible red lacquered library (designed by Pierce and Ward, of course).
I’m not complaining—it’s one of my top 3 favorite colors!!! I haven’t done a shopping round up based on a single color yet, but peach fuzz had its day in the sun so it felt right to give red its moment, too. If the frenzy around 2023’s Tomato Girl Summer is any indication, it isn’t fading away anytime soon. And both Lunar New Year and Valentine’s Day are here, after all!
Below, 27 items for your home and closet that can be your “pop of red”, big or small. Buy a gift for someone you love, treat yourself, or simply admire what I’ve decided is The Ali LaBelle Color of the Year™.
